How many years have you
been in the tire business and
tell us about the number and
locations of your tire business?
Martin Tire was established
in 1945. As a 3rd generation
family member in the business
I have been working at the
company since I was old enough
to change tires. We have grown
to 8 retail and 1 wholesale
location covering Southern
New Mexico and West Texas
with our home in El Paso.
What was your business prior to entering the tire
business and what motivated you to get into the
industry?
I grew up in the tire business…. I saw my
Grandfather and Father’s passion for not only Martin Tire
but our industry. Their passion motivated me to go into
the same business.
What are the three biggest challenges you see for
the tire industry in the next three years?
Proliferation
of SKU’S, Government Regulation and Insurance Cost. What advice would you have for the “newcomer” to
the industry? This is a very competitive industry… Build
your own business brand on something other than price;
the only way to success is through high quality, trained
employees. Most importantly, make sure you leave time for
your family and friends.
How long have you been a TTDA member and what
do you consider the best benefits of your membership?
Do not remember how long I have been a member of
TTDA. TTDA’s best benefit for me is the ongoing
communication of State and Federal changes that may
affect our industry. I feel this communication and voice
at the capital are necessary to protect our livelihoods. What is your biggest achievement to date? Despite
Martin Tire’s small size we provide our employees with
fully paid Health and Life Insurance and a matching
retirement program.
What person has had the most influence on your business
life?
My Father has been the most influential person in
my business life. He taught me the value of honesty and
respect when dealing with customers and employees
alike.
What is something most people may not know
about you?
Most people think I work all of the time.
As I mentioned before you have to leave time for family
and friends. I coach my son’s football team, and try to
make it to the lake or mountains for outdoor recreation
as often as possible.
